    1. Our laws do afford protection from libel to the dead. If the victim of libel dies before a suit can be pursued or the "estate" of the dead is threatened.

    2. If Dewees wanted to challenge the article in a defamation suit he could have cleared his name and received restitution for damages. However, he would have needed to prove falsity. Since he did not pursue a defamation suit, but acted as though he had no other options, it is not unreasonable to interpret his suicide as an admission of guilt.

What exactly is the stop error you're receiving? In the BSOD it should say "STOP:" and then an error code that will begin with 0x. If you post that it'll really help with diagnosis.

I've never seen a Windows install disc cause a bluescreen when the correct SATA drivers weren't present on the disc. What happens is just that the installer won't find any hard drives. SATA driver-related bluescreens generally happen when Windows is installed in one type of SATA controller operation mode (either SATA or legacy/IDE mode) and then the mode is switched to the other type and a boot of the existing Windows install is attempted. This probably won't ever be an issue for you with this computer because the BIOS that Dell ships on the Inspiron line is very limited and doesn't let you change this (at least none of the versions I've seen have had this option).

Another poster below recommended running the Dell built-in diagnostics, and I second this. Tap F12 at the Dell BIOS bootup screen and then select the diagnostics option from that boot menu. See if that finds any problems.

    * she won't have a clue what to do with activities

    * she will miss the simple windows list to select the window/app she requires

    * she will miss the simple navigation method to select and launch and app from the Applications menu (Vista's new menu freaked her out so Shell will scare her tenfold)

    * **probably the most important of all these**, she has only just about gotten used to the current desktop layout. Forcing her to completely re-learn everything again is downright WRONG on so many levels, it shouldn't take a genius to see this.

    * she doesn't need these advanced window management tools

    * it overcomplicates what should be simple (and already is simple in Gnome 2)

    * she doesn't use the current virtual desktops features already found in Gnome 2 and most certainly doesn't require the activities functionality

The lsit could easily go on..

Does no-one else have these doubts, not for yourselves but for noobs & future Windows exiles?!

there is a war going on right now between the White House and Republicans as to Beck and Limbaugh and who they represent. Lindsey Graham said Beck represents no party only cynicism but I believe he represents the cynical Republican party. The White House at the same time is trying to align Beck and Limbaugh with the Republican party. I am relieved to see that finally someone of consequence is saying the Birthers are crazy and all the Birther and Nazi idiocy must come to a halt but it will not until the likes of Boehner come forward and he will not as he loves this.

    How can you be serious?

I would prefer that people without multi-million-dollar portfolios have a chance at survival if they are unlucky enough to get cancer. And no, removing insurance wont drop prices enough. Not unless we kill research into new treatments.

Your whole concept relies on lowering demand, which means less medical care. People who are dying will still be willing to pay great sums to save their own lives, even if it means wiping out their retirement savings. And then we will have a whole new problem on our hands, as millions of people enter retirement with nothing.

Every tuesday morning I go for a swim at the local pool, real early in the morning... We're talking 6:30AM early and I'm almost always the first person in the place, so the carpark is usually completely empty. This particular tuesday however, someone had decided to hang them selves from the rafters just inside the entrance of the carpark. Bear in mind the entrance is above ground and the carpark is underground, so i drive up to the barrier all casual like and take my ticket out of the machine. I then pull off and slowly go down the ramp not really paying much attention to anything aside from the radio and then BAMMMM dangling corpse hits my windscreen and I get a full veiw of a blue hanging dead dude. Luckily i've never been a squimish person, and I've had the misfortune of seeing a few dead bodies in my life so i wasn't hysterical. Freaked me out for a while though..... i've since changed my swim days to fridays. On the plus side I got a week off of work fully paid.

As he indirectly says, the problem is not solving the task at hand, the problem is figuring out what that task is - that includes "what do we wish to solve (and for what purpose)" as well as "what tool is right". A good developer knows a bit of everything, but unless you settle in a niche corner of the software industry and only produce a specific set of products, there is a lot of "research" being done, if not on the clients then on your own, which indirectly translates to the clients time (since you need to put food on the table).

When you charge X per hour, you are maybe charging half of that for the actual work and the other half for everything else (administration, research, etc.)

How many people are convinced by Titor?

Wasn't it traced back to some kind of advertising company? It seems unlikely that a government agent taveling through time would take the time to post on an obscure message board.

Most of the things Titor professed have failed to come true now. The most significant is the 2008 Bejing Olympics which Titor said would not take place due to overshadowing world events. I faltered on my scepticism when there was a mention of a boycott!

It would be interesting to talk to the perpetrator!

I agree and don't use to assume FTL travel is something awaiting a "discovery", but the cosmic roadblock talked of in the article is also the lack of observation of any radio waves, and so on, i.e. regardless of how far you can travel. In that case, I agree with others here that it could just be that the time span we're using "easily" detectable radio waves may be too short. It takes a lot of coincidence to observe a technology we have in common with ET's during just, say, ~500 years in a world that harbor life for billions of years. That is even worse odds than winning a lottery, and that even not taking into account that we have to happen to be looking in the exact right direction in space.

You know, there seems to be a good chance that all the ice on Greenland will melt away in the next 50 years and all that, plus the other ice that melts, will drive 10s or 100s of millions of people out of their homes and cause untold billions of damage.

I hope you don't consider that one of the far left issues.

By the way, starvation becomes at least 10, and possibly closer to 30 times easier to manage _if_ we all went vegetarian. Meat simply takes far more land per pound of food. I, however, am not a vegetarian.

I've been in this boat with every woman I've ever been with. I need my solitude time too and no girl has ever really understood that. They all start to feel resentful and neglected about every single moment that I don't spend with them. It's fucking annoying.

Women... you'll never be as fascinating as video games!!!!!

I've also noticed that the more clingy and uptight the girl gets about my alone time the less attracted to her I become and the more I start to resent her. Especially because these feelings make me feel guilty about my alone time and so I can't even enjoy it because in the back of my mind is the girls angst/unhappiness.

    Hi,

Thanks for your replies! You've been very informative. Of course I've taken a look at Wikipedia's HIV page before, but I figured you'd have more detailed information.

It's a good point that someone who doesn't know she has HIV and therefore is not getting treatment is much more infectious. I'm in Scandinavia though, not in the US.

    > Sitting in the waiting room to see my HIV doc, about half of the guys appear to be gay men, but there are a very surprising number of university aged women.

What about university aged men? :) Shouldn't they be equally well represented?
